A five-year lease is a notable commitment for anyone, but it’s a particularly big deal for Sarah and Natalie Knowlton. The sisters and influencers behind We the Birds (both an aesthetically striking lifestyle blog and macaron bakery) moved a grand total of 17 times in their adolescence (Singapore and Australia rank among their favorite cities) before finally settling down in Dallas. This summer, the duo moved into their first We the Birds headquarters in East Dallas, and plan on sticking around. “We love Dallas. We’re not from here, but we felt so welcomed,” says Sarah. “For us, this is putting down roots.”

In addition to offering some much needed separation between home and work (“My husband is very happy,” notes Sarah), the new headquarters, which includes work spaces and a photography studio, is a way to bring everyone involved in the growing lifestyle company under one roof. The 2,000-square-foot building also includes a commercial kitchen, which is crucial to the sisters’ goal of launching an e-commerce site for their macarons before the holiday season.

The space itself, designed by the sisters in collaboration with Overstock.com, is like a real world extension of their impeccably curated Instagram. Stark whites and bold black accents set the backdrop for the Scandinavian-inspired design. Occasional pops of millennial pink were a compromise. “I had this crazy idea about wanting pink floors, but Natalie, being the pragmatic one, knew we would get tired of them in a year,” says Sarah. “I appreciate that about her.”
