In the past year, it has been our privilege to bring our readers another slate of thoughtful and engaging stories about the people, institutions, and places that make Dallas and North Texas a special place. These were the most popular narratives on our website:

1. The Legend of Chris Kyle
The inspiring and tragic story of the life of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle — soon to be depicted in a Clint Eastwood film — continued to fascinate our audience. Michael J. Mooney’s April 2013 take is an intimate account of what drove this man.

2. Q&A: Fast N’ Loud‘s Richard Rawlings
Tim Rogers interviewed a different sort of famous fellow for our September 2013 issue, and an abundance of readers clearly were looking to learn more about the reality TV star.

3. Kidd Kraddick’s Big Secret
This story is the all-time most-popular piece of journalism on our website, though most of its tally was racked up during 2013. But the article, published as part of the January 2014 issue of D Magazine, garnered plenty of attention this calendar year as well.

4. This Internet Millionaire Has a New Deal For You
Opinions about Woot founder Matt Rutledge, profiled in D‘s July 2014 issue, differ widely — if the online comments are accurate representation.

5. How Not to Get Away With Murder
Michael J. Mooney’s tale, in our December 2014 issue, was like a Coen Brothers’ movie brought to life. One of those tales that’s hard to believe is a true story.

6. California Dreamin’ in Preston Hollow
Kim and Nevin Bannister carved out an approximation of West Coast living for themselves in North Dallas, and D Home offered a tour in its November-December 2014 issue.

7. Homecoming in Bloom
Liz Johnstone’s look, from D‘s October 2014 issue, at one of the more peculiar Texas high school traditions: the mum

8. Inside PGA Golfer Hunter Mahan’s Home
Because who doesn’t envy a guy with his own basketball court and virtual driving range?

9. Why Young Black Professionals Are Wary of Dallas
We hope that our city is changing soon enough to make the premise of this May 2012 article seem outdated.

10. When the Bough Breaks
This heartbreaking story from August 2014 recognizes the work of the Dallas Police Department’s Child Abuse Squad.
