Cook Children’s Health Care System is opening the new John and Tracy Sellers Sports Complex west of Fort Worth. The new institution expands the already existing Cook Children’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Walsh Ranch. The facility caters to young athletes to help them train and rehab in conditions akin to those in which they play. The new complex has a 30-yard football field, quarter-mile track, pitching mound, and agility training area. John and Tracy Sellers, the Walsh Foundation, and the James and Dorothy Doss Foundation funded the new complex.

For her contributions to maternal-fetal medicine and her dedication to healthcare and research for women and newborns, Dr. Catherine Spong has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). She has served in various leadership roles at the National Institutes of Health’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. With Spong’s appointment to NAM, UT Southwestern has 20 members of the National Academy of Medicine – more than any other institution in Texas.

Cerise, and The Joint Commission Enterprise’s president and CEO, Jonathan B. Perlin, spoke about the intention to accelerate sustainable practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program will go into effect next year and provide much-needed regulation and acceleration to the industry’s growing need for sustainability. SHC will be available to Joint Commission-accredited and non-Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals and will allow the institutions to get public recognition and benefits from the government, such as tax credits and federal incentives.
