Tenet and Humana Reach Agreement as Tenet Plans to Offshore More Than 1,000 Jobs

|

Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corporation and Humana Inc. signed a multi-year agreement to ensure Humana members will have in-network access to Tenet providers. The contract runs through May 2023.

The deal follows a similar agreement between Tenet and Cigna signed shortly after the new year that followed months of negotiations.

Founded in 1961 as a nursing home facility, Humana now has over 16 million medical plan members nationwide and had over $53 billion in revenue in 2017. The company also has 3.5 million Medicare Advantage members, 5 million Medicare prescription drug members. Tenet Healthcare operates 68 hospitals with 20,000 licensed beds, 21 surgical hospitals and 470 outpatient centers.

Ron Rittenmeyer, Tenet’s Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said via release, “We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Humana, and look forward to continuing to provide their members with high-quality care and trusted service today and into the future.”

“This agreement with Tenet Healthcare ensures continued in-network access to Tenet facilities and physicians for Humana members, and it reflects our ongoing commitment to provide a broad range of high quality health care options for the people we serve,” said George Renaudin, Senior Vice President at Humana via release.

Meanwhile, Becker’s Hospital Review reports that Tenet is looking to offshore over 1,000 jobs to improve efficiency, according to a presentation Rittenmeyer made at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco. The Dallas Morning News reported earlier this week that the company will be “aggressively” offshoring jobs. One target could be Conifer Billing Solutions, based in Frisco.

“We’ll look at aggressively doing that across the whole enterprise,” CEO Ronald Rittenmeyer told DMN.
