Physicians Applaud Bill That Shields them from Lawsuits Under ACA

|

Doctors across the country are hoping a Georgia bill will be implemented in more states. Based on an American Medical Association model, the law protects physicians from liability suits sought on the basis of federal quality-of-care and payment standards authorized by the Affordable Care Act.

Medical organizations fear these federal standards could be used by patients to seek negligence charges. The Georgia bill asserts, “payer guidelines and quality criteria under federal law shall not establish a legal basis for negligence or a standard of care for the purposes of determining medical liability,” according to American Medical News.
