More than half of U.S. hospitals plan to buy physician practices this year, according to a Jackson Healthcare survey.
About 52 percent of respondents said they plan to buy practices in 2013, compared with 44 percent that bought practices in 2012.
Primary-care practices were in the greatest demand, with family practice (31 percent) and internal medicine (22 percent) being the lead acquisition targets.
