The “Willy Wonka of Dallas music,” singer/songwriter/pop-folk-alt-rock-hip-hop-confectioner Sarah Jaffe stopped by the Old Monk (her first visit ever to that establishment) to chat with Zac Crain and “T-Bar” Rogers about how a hook she wrote in her driveway ended up on an Eminem record, what she and her touring band listen to on the bus (Radiolab), and how much she looks up to her farmer sister.
Now, a few helpful notes:
1. Synonyms for “garbage”: debris, detritus, dreck, dregs, dross, filth, junk, muck, offal, rubbish, rubble, scrap, scrappings, sewage, slop, sweepings, swill, trash, waste, bits and pieces, odds and ends.
2. According to her Wikipedia page, Sarah Jaffe will turn 30 in January. The first citation on that page is this 2009 Rolling Stone dispatch from Austin City Limits, which appears to be misattributed to Zac.
3. The Old Monk sits on the edge of Cochran Heights, which is part of Old East Dallas, which is part of Central Dallas. Were you to cross the street to the old Mesero Miguel, you’d be in Vickery Place-M Streets, which is in East Dallas. Because we had to draw the line somewhere, and we chose Henderson Avenue. Meanwhile in our bars and clubs directory, the Old Monk is classified as part of “Henderson,” which amicably split from Knox several years back.
