Paul Meyer Decamps DMN

|

A memo that just went out to the staff reads:

“I regret to inform [sic: a word was missing] that Paul Meyer, a Local general assignments reporter, is leaving the paper to literally explore the world. Paul’s embarking on quite the adventure to Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Africa and beyond in his words ‘writing and working as the mood dictates.'”

I met Paul about eight months ago and left the meeting with the impression that he was way smarter than I am and way too talented to be working at the Morning News. If memory serves, the guy was a philosophy major and kinda just fell into writing. His piece on the Sugar Hill housing project was the sort of thing the paper needs to do more frequently (but won’t). Young writers who know how to tell a narrative are the sorts of people the paper needs to retain (and can’t). His last day is July 25.
