It’s not just editors sending resumes out. We are soon to be interviewing for a position, and I was amazed at the number of folks who were reporters at DMN.
Let’s take a look at how the law of unintended consequences might work here. The paper (presumably) needs to thin its workforce to save money, so it asks people to take voluntary severances. Everyone at the paper freaks about their job security. They all send out resumes. The best of the lot, the most talented, find work elsewhere and split. What’s left in the new, leaner newsroom? The people who didn’t make the cut elsewhere.
