HIGH DIVE PARROTS

|

Channel 5 lifted Tim’s end-of-the-high-dive story from our June issue a couple of weeks ago for a brief afternoon report, but today, the DMN did so, too, and much more blatantly, even taking the basic theme of our story, that the new state rules banning high dives are ridiculous. In neither case, not so much as a credit to having obviously borrowed the story idea, the contacts, or basically the whole freakin’ concept. Very bush league.

It’s just another example of the DMN‘s sense of entitlement. We don’t mind if you like our stories enough to copy them, but it’s a basic of journalism, academic research, and professional ethics to credit sources when used, especially when so obviously all-but-plagiarized. One of the continuing problems with one-newspaper towns is that the paper can get away with arrogating unto itself dispensation for stealing. But out here in mediaville, you can be sure the lift is noticed.
