I’m in the midst of the “Convenience” chapter in Salt Sugar Fat, and, friends, I am riveted. Author Michael Moss’ reporting on how the “desire” (whether genuine or marketing-induced) for fast/easy/convenient products has resulted in a “heat and serve” culture that will forever change the way we think about food is seriously eye-opening and, well, pretty disturbing stuff.

The good news is that there’s been a bit of a backlash towards “fast food” of late, with trend toward embracing the real, whole, nourishing foods that Lunchables and the like displaced. I’m on board, many of my friends and neighbors are on board. It’s a good thing. However, I have two littles and a full-time job, I still need things to be “easy” (or even, yes, convenient) on some level. Take, for example, going to the grocery store. I’m just not that into it. I’ll happily while away a Sunday baking from scratch or making a complicated, multi-ingredient homemade soup, but ask me to go grocery shopping and all bets are off. Luckily, I have a husband who is more than happy to go. Oh and I can hire out. Well, sort of.

Enter Artizone.

It’s a local online ordering and home delivery service with a passion for fresh, healthy, local, and artisanal made foods. You just go to their website, shop from a selection of offerings ranging from raw produce and wine to prepared foods from beloved local vendors (think Holy Ravioli, TJ’s Seafood Market, Dude Sweet Chocolate, Empire Baking Company, and Mozzarella Company, among others), pay, and then have your groceries delivered to your front door at a specified time.

With an emphasis on prepared items, the service isn’t a total replacement for a trip to the grocery store, but it’ll definitely reduce your time in the car (or braving the Saturday Central Market crowd) freeing you up to spend the day getting your bake on. (Or, if baking isn’t your thing, getting a pedicure, hitting the park, watching back episodes of Girls…whaeves.) The easy-to-use site also offers recipes and the ability to save shopping lists for future use.

And, wait for it…Artizone has kindly offered up a promotion for D Moms readers. Just enter the code DMOMS between now and April 20, and you’ll receive 20% off your first order plus free delivery.

Count me in.
