Celebration Farmers Market will host one of my favorite vendors again this week. If you’ve never tried the infused oils and vinegars from Texas Olive Ranch, you’re missing out. I’m particularly partial to the Rattlesnake flavor. It combines infusions of chipotle and red peppers that pair well with balsamic vinegars to make a tasty, guilt–free salad dressing. Holleman Farms will also have pastured beef, chicken and eggs. All their farmers have great cucumbers right now, and they’re the perfect jar-friendly size for pickling.

Coppell Farmers Market: When Mike Powell retired from Lucent Technologies, he made growing stone fruits and tomatoes on his 1.5 acre plot in Forney a full-time hobby. He’ll make the trip out to Coppell Saturday with his plums, peaches and apricots.

Dallas Farmers Market: This monster of a market will have berries as far as the eye can see this weekend. While the number of farmers can be daunting, and most of them have similar assortments of in-season local produce, I find it helpful that many farmers here encourage sampling. There’s no need to poke and prod and sniff peaches all afternoon when you can simply taste the difference between crops. I never let a man with a melon baller in one hand and a cantaloupe in the other pass me by.

Grapevine Farmers Market: Be advised: the sun is hanging low in the sky on crawfish season. If you haven’t had a meal served with its head on make your lips burn and your mouth ache for more potatoes, the Grapevine Farmers Market has you covered this Saturday. This crawfish boil comes complete with live zydeco music played under the gazebo.
Organic peaches are in early this year. Expect a plethora of summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, and all Texas melons.

Four Seasons Market: Tierra Sienna will be out in Richardson this weekend selling grass fed beef. They offer a 10% discount on purchases of $150 or more for farmers market customers only. If you get warm while you’re shopping, pay a visit to the SocialIce table for a wine-infused popsicle made from fruit from local farmers markets and Texas wine.

McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square: A recreation of the feel of the mid-20th century market days held in Chestnut Square Historic Village, this market provides shopping with a history lesson. A tour of the square is offered at 11:00 a.m., and the Dixie Store will be open and fully stocked with old-fashioned candy, toys, ice cream, and Dublin Dr. Pepper. Kitchen Pride Mushrooms will have white button, portabella and baby bella mushrooms. Stop by the Elliott Grows tent for hydroponically grown lettuces, greens and basil. Saturday’s entertainment will feature the banjo and fiddle styling of Irish folk band Flashpoint. Most markets have hand crafted products, but this one has an especially broad assortment available including woodworking, textiles, and art glass.

McKinney Farmers Market at Adriatica: If you can’t make it out to Chestnut Square market on Saturday, swing by its little sister market tonight for some of the same old-time fun. Rehoboth Ranch will sell grass fed beef and lamb, and pastured pork and poultry from Greenville, TX. Berry Best Farm will still have some great in-season blueberries left.
