What I am drinking now: Actually where….

The great thing about wine is that there is always something new to try, and I love giving some hints on wine that may not be on your radar; however this week I wanted to make sure you are aware of some of my favorite spots in Dallas, that may not be on your radar for great deals, especially because they may not last long.

Summertime at Stephan Pyles means meeting in their bar or patio from 5p-7p daily for $7 glasses of their house wine and champagne, with complimentary flatbreads.  The smoked tomato and shrimp is incredible.  (He is also starting a $35 prix fix 3-course through July.)

Lakewood is a buzz with the opening of Penne Pomodoro.  Stop in for brunch on Saturday or Sunday and enjoy $1 Bellini’s and Mimosa’s with your meal; or stop into their location in Snider Plaza for $1 Bloody Mary’s as well.

If you aren’t taking advantage of the “Big Daddy Stimulus Packages” at Kent Rathbun’s restaurants then you are missing out.  Monday night offers  half price bottles at Abacus for anything not on Kent’s special list; half price appetizers in the bar on Wednesday;  Jasper’s Plano has half price bar appetizers on Tuesday; half price martini’s in the bar on Wednesday.

Lazy summer days are perfect for soaking up the sun and indulging in tasty afternoon lunches, made even better with specially priced wine.  Monday – Thursday from now through August, Café on the Green at The Four Seasons in Las Colinas will have over 40 wine selections for half price. Everything from Champagne, to Sparkling Wine, to White, to Red are offered, selected by Master Sommelier James Tidwell, and representing some of the best at the Café.

Monday through Friday at The Mansion on Turtle Creek celebrate happy hour with cocktails at half price, including their signature Blazing Turtle brimming with Champagne, or the Ginger-rita, with ginger, tequila and lime.   Or, indulge in late night cocktails on July 24th with one of my favorite local crooners, Hunter Sullivan.

Sigel’s holds wine tastings weekly at their various store locations.  Their new Elite location on Fitzhugh is complete with an education center where they hold seminars and tastings.  Coming up on the 9thAli Smith of Vine Connections Sake will lead an educational overview and tasting of Sake at this location.
