A mission to bring more green space to downtown Dallas is getting a boost from developer Shawn Todd. His company, Todd Interests, and his partners at East Quarter have stepped up with a seven-figure gift to help fund the construction of Harwood Park.

Harwood Street will bound the 4-acre retreat to the west, Jackson Street to the north, and Pearl Expressway to the east. It will link East Quarter District, the Dallas Farmers Market District, and the downtown core—and sit adjacent to 300 Pearl, a new mixed-use offering from East Quarter, slated to open in 2021.

“To have a leading, urban planning-oriented firm like Todd Interests and their partners at East Quarter not only support this effort but put financial muscle behind it is a very, very significant moment for us and the city of Dallas,” said Robert Decherd, chairman of Parks for Downtown Dallas.

Harwood Park will be the fourth urban park completed in a series of public-private partnerships between Parks for Downtown Dallas and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.

“The realization of this plan will give downtown Dallas nearly 14 acres of new green space, helping to solidify the notion that downtown is a place to build a life and call home,” said Amy M. Meadows, president and CEO of Parks for Downtown Dallas.

Austin-based firm Ten Eyck Landscape Architects is the leading design group. Construction is scheduled to begin next spring.

“Urban parks define the soul of a city,” said Patrick Todd, partner at Todd Interests. “Parks for Downtown Dallas has forever changed the landscape of our city by adding not one, but four new parks.”
