In 2004, animal rescue advocate Colleen Paige created National Dog Day to celebrate our furry four legged friends. Today, August 26, is that day. For us in Dallas, the holiday is the perfect moment to support our local animal nonprofits, such as Dallas Pets Alive, Dallas Street Dog Advocates, and Dallas Dog Rescue Reform Rehab. And to give your dog some well needed rest and relaxation. Here are some of your best bets.

PUPsicle and Doggie Dog are on the menu for the dogs’ big day! Adults are welcome to cool down from the August heat with a $4 Barkarita (Yappy Hour special) , while the dogs enjoy their day out.

Sheraton Dallas

Luxurious pups can indulge in the Very Important Pet (VIP) Amenity at Sheraton Dallas. The package includes toys, treats, and food and water bowls for its four legged guests. Across from the hotel is Pacific Plaza Park and a number of dog-friendly restaurants and pet supply stores for their parents’ extended staycation.

Bring your furry best friend for a free “pup cup” (ice cream) at the Greenville Avenue burger slider bar. Keep the wagyu beef slider for yourself.

Victory Park

Bring your pup to Dog Days of Summer at Victory Park! The dog-friendly happy hour has ‘Champagne’ and ‘wine’ for our four legged friends, and a luxury photo booth to capture the night’s events. Hatchways Cafe and Orangetheory Fitness provide pet (and human) friendly food and drink options. Close out the day with a nighttime performance by Between The Drinks.

Toller Patio

Check out Toller Patio’s summer Pool Party series every Sunday this summer from now through September 26. BYO pup, but the pools and good times are provided from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be food, drink specials, a live DJ, and mini pools for the doggies (whom are always welcome at the Ross Ave. bar). Reserve your spot here; admission is free, but to secure a mini pool for your pooch, it’s $25, but that also includes seating for up to 8 humans, plus drink and raffle tickets.
