BEST POOL IN TOWN

|

After their lame Stephen Sondheim show back in May, Theatre Three seemed to be headed for Edgemere, clientele and all. (Not that anybody should minding live there. If they can get in.)

But last night, Jac Alder said in his curtain speech that it felt like they were starting over – not just the season, but the whole theater – with Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses. It’s pretty magical: beautifully acted, both hilarious and poignant, with a mythical script (much of it straight from Ovid) and a three-depth pool built into the center of Theatre Three’s space. I have some minor reservations, but I’ve never seen anything quite like it, probably because the water so clearly becomes the element of transformation.

So – everybody needs to see this one. Last night was packed, and I suspect it will be for the whole run.
