Governor Abbott extended statewide disaster declaration as North Texas reaches six months since the first COVID-19 case.

Governor Greg Abbott extended the statewide disaster declaration in response to COVID-19. While Abbott first issued this proclamation in March, its official extension means Texas will continue providing state resources to combat the spread of the virus, WFAA reported.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 139 new positive COVID-19 cases with three deaths. The deaths included two women in their 50s and a man in his 60s, each of whom suffered underlying high-risk health conditions.

Saturday marked six months since the first confirmed North Texas COVID-19 case. The Dallas Morning News reported some of the massive changes seen in health care and everyday life since then.

Dallas ISD schools reopened on Tuesday, with students learning remotely until September 28. With decreasing case numbers and hospitalizations, Judge Jenkins said he is hopeful that more and more children will get the opportunity for in-person learning.
