Once devoted to fashion retail, Sam Moon Group has opened the doors to its second major hotel development in North Texas.

The 18-story, more than $100 million, Hyatt Regency at Frisco’s Stonebriar Centre is the result of a partnership between the Sam Moon Group and the City of Frisco aimed at updating the shopping center. Frisco provided $16.5 million in incentives to the property. As part of the deal, the city will acquire the hotel’s conference center for more than $10 million.

“It’s hard to imagine that this bustling city was once a dusty cattle drive trail that was later transformed by the railroad through the North Texas plains,” said developer Daniel Moon in a release. “Now, it’s a tourist destination renowned for shopping, stadiums, conventions, and entertainment. Our hotel will celebrate the spirit of this vibrant community.”

Sam Moon Group built the 304-room, 15-story Renaissance Hotel in Plano in 2017 and has filed a permit to build an $85 million JW Marriott in downtown Dallas.

Alabama-based construction firm Brasfield & Gorrie and local design firm HKS Inc. brought the Frisco hotel to life, showcasing a modern glass exterior. Local interior design firm Looney & Associates tackled the hotel’s indoor elements.

“The interior design acknowledges Frisco’s North Texas heritage while looking ahead to its bright future,” Principal of Looney & Associates Jim Looney said in a release. “Open, fresh, and inviting characterize our design approach.”

The 303-room hotel will include a 27,500 square-foot conference center, two ballrooms, breakout spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows, a to-go market, a poolside bar, and private cabanas, a 3,000 square-foot satellite Frisco Public Library, and 303 rooms.

Dramatic focal elements, subtle colors and textures, and natural materials are featured throughout the hotel.
