It's somber, empowering, and perfect for a rainy day in quarantine.

Dallas native Dezi 5, a.k.a. Dezman Lehman, is best known for dance floor-ready electro pop tracks and theatrical, over-the-top performances. The queer, 37-year-old singer songwriter made a name for himself in Dallas’ LGBTQ club scene before taking his remarkable voice and loud style to New York City, where he’s been living and pursuing music for the past few years. Dezi’s latest music video is a major change of pace from past bangers like “Expose You,” but we’re here for it. Billboard likes it, too.

The new song, “Lady,” is inspired by the women in his life, particularly his late grandmother, who owned the longstanding Deep Ellum soul food restaurant Vern’s Place. Dezi returned home to Dallas to shoot the video so that he could collaborate with old friends. The music video was directed by Dallas-based artist and filmmaker Jeremy Biggers, and features his wife, artist Sam Lao, and their precious daughter, Tesla James. You may recognize other Dallas creatives, like Molly Sydnor, who was featured in our August 2019 issue.

It’s a classic, solid R&B track, carried out with clean instrumentals that let Dezi’s impressive pipes shine. Turn up your speakers and take a minute to listen. You deserve it, Lady.
