Rehabilitation and therapy services at Children’s Health will be consolidated into six specialty centers throughout North Texas this fall. Centers in Frisco, Plano, Rockwall, Mesquite, and Las Colinas will be closing as services are consolidated to six locations.
A statement from Children’s Health says, “In April 2020, our specialty centers in Rockwall and Mesquite will move their programs to our specialty center in Richardson. As with any change, we are focused on minimizing impact to our patients and their families by continuing to provide quality care and making this transition as seamless as possible.”
Rehabilitation and therapy services in Plano and Frisco will move to a new larger facility in Plano this December, and next summer the Las Colinas specialty center will closed and be consolidated with the Grapevine specialty center, which will expand. The same services and programs will still be available at the remaining locations.
Often times, patients at these clinics are receiving rehab and therapy services a few times a week, so a family in Mesquite would have to travel around 20 miles north to Richardson and back for those appointments. The move lines up with other Children’s Health moves northward, as they have purchased 72 acres for a new children’s hospital in Prosper.
Last year, Children’s Health sold 13 community clinics to MD Medical, many of which were in high need communities with a large medicaid population. In March of this year, Children’s Health closed its Home Care division, which included 93 employees who provided in-home care to children and their families in Dallas, Denton, Ellis, and Collin counties for some of Children’s Health’s most critical patients.
There is still a rehabilitation center in DeSoto, the only location south of I-30 in Dallas County according the Children’s Health website.
