Dallas-based Steward Health Care has officially closed the doors to its Ohio-based Northside Regional Medical Center.
The hospital operator, which recently moved its headquarters to Dallas, said in August that it would shutter the operation due to declining patient volumes. Monday was the last day that the hospital accepted ambulances and admissions in the ER and labor and delivery units. Thursday at 12:01 a.m., the hospital officially closed.
The move impacts 468 employees, Becker’s Hospital Review reports.
“Despite continued investment, Northside Regional Medical Center remains significantly under-utilized — as it has been for many years,” Steward said, as Becker’s reports. “While other nearby hospitals have seen increasing numbers of patient visits in recent years, Northside has seen a 71 percent decrease over the past decade.”
News broke in February that Steward would move its headquarters to Dallas, taking three floors at 1900 Pearl St. in downtown Dallas. It has also signed on a lease for 165,000 square feet of space in Richardson.
The previously Boston-based company has undergone aggressive growth over the last two years. The Boston Globe reported in November that the company quadrupled in size over the course of a year, building itself toward a national aim.
Steward has Texas locations in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Odessa, San Antonio, Houston, and Texarkana.
