A critical care nurse at Baylor University Medical Center has been named to the board of directors at the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, an organization that represents more than 70,000 clinical nurse specialists.
Susan Smith was named to the board at the association’s annual conference earlier this month. Smith is the chair of Baylor Scott & White’s Critical Care Council, and served as president of the Texas Clinical Nurse Specialists from 2013 to 2014. She’s also a former winner of a D Magazine Excellence in Nursing Award.
“We are so pleased to have Susan join our board of directors,” NACNS Executive Director Melinda Mercer Ray said in a statement. “Her history of focusing on patients and improving outcomes as well as her depth of knowledge about malnutrition and the adult patient will be a huge asset as we work to strengthen and solidify the impact clinical nurse specialists have in health care today.”
Smith said in a statement that she’s looking forward to getting to work on some of the pressing issues facing clinical nurse specialists nationally.
“Clinical nurse specialists have a unique set of skills and I’m eager to add my voice to the chorus of CNSs showing how we positively impact and improve health care,” she said.
