What does it take to be a Pinterest Ambassador? Being an expert in your field is a must. Having that field be something photo-friendly gets you bonus points. But above all, Pinterest’s first class of ambassadors are people who just truly love the popular social media tool, and want to help it bring it to life.

As with most online entities that wish to make an appearance in the three-dimensional world, Pinterest is doing it in the form of a pop-up. A pop-up event to be precise, lead by a region’s very own Pinterest Ambassador.

Pinterst-Ambassador-Dallas-Party-Edible-Flower-Cupcakes-BouquetDallas is lucky enough to be one of the first cities to begin hosting pop-up events, with Texas’ very DIY blogger and designer Amy Lacurto at the helm. “Hosting Pinterest Ambassador events is a great way to meet others in the community who also share my love for Pinterest,” Lacurto says. “Whether you are a blogger, restaurant owner, designer, teacher or parent, you can always find something inspiring for your life on Pinterest.”

Locurto has grown her business substantially using Pinterest, so she knows a thing or two about the social media channel. Luckily for us, she’s decided to share a few of those tips right here on the D Home blog. Click here to check out photos from Amy’s Pinterest Spring Fling. The next pop-up event will take place this fall.

  1. Make a Pinterest Plan

The key to getting started with Pinterest is to come up with a plan. A great way to start is by creating Pin Boards for each idea you have. What do you want to use Pinterest for? When you have a plan, then it’s easy to fill a board with great content!

  1. Create Boards for Your Business

The best tip for promoting your business on Pinterest is to create a few boards just for your company’s products and services. Use this as a portfolio to show off your upcoming specials, news, services and talents. Share this board often with your clients and readers. Create a business account and promote pins. With millions of people using Pinterest daily, you don’t want to miss out on this great opportunity to reach new customers.

  1. Be Strategic When Naming Boards

Name your boards something easily searchable with good key words so people can find it. For example, if you are a travel agent, naming a board “Family Trips” is too generic. Naming it “Disney Family Vacation Ideas” would make more sense and show up better in Pinterest search engines.

  1. Don’t Be Pin Hog

Pin different things and not the same photos over and over. If you do repin items, spread them out. There is nothing worse than seeing 10 or more of the same images pinned at once by the same person! I often repin items to circulate my articles among several of my favorite boards, but I spread them out over several days or weeks.

  1. Be Unique

The best way to grow your following is to provide unique and useful content along with eye catching images that people want to repin and share with their friends.
