Friday Fun with Jim Williamson

Need a recipe for how not to start  a long weekend away with your LTAP? Just follow these simple steps. Add one part unexpected delays at DFW—making your arrival into New York City a mere six hours later than anticipated. Stir in two parts lack of food for nearly 12 hours. Mix well with rainy and cold weather conditions. Pour into packed subway car at rush hour at what should feel like 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove from subway and place Buttero boots in excessively large puddle. Let cool for 2 to 2 ½ hours (approximate length of Broadway show) then serve with a side of insanely over-salted pasta from a much hyped restaurant.

And viola! You have “L’Enfer est vide, tous les démons sont parmi nous.” (Hell is empty and all the devils are here.) And after all that, it’s great to have to spend the next five days with the person with whom you’ve shared this misery. Luckily, after a few glasses of holy water—booze, obviously—a Xanax and eight hours of sleep, my inner jerk melted away like the snow on Sunday, and our relationship was back on the Good Ship Lollipop.

The rest of the weekend was crazy and hectic. Even the Halloween Nor’easter couldn’t dampen our fun. I mean, how can you go wrong with four days filled with Hugh Jackman, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Page, Morgan Fairchild (sighting on Fifth), and Betty Buckley— we got to meet her back stage. (Thank you to my sweet friend in Ennis for arranging that one. As we were listening to Betty sing some amazing tunes, it was hard not to laugh at the man at the table in front of us as he began eating the world’s largest and loudest wedge salad followed by an even larger lamp chop. One might want to eat prior to the performance. Not this one. He chomped and crunched his way through the show.

On our last night, we dined at wd~50, Wylie Dufresne’s  gastro-molecular restaurant on Clinton. It was probably one of the best meals I’ve eaten, and it was the perfect way to spend our last evening.

Speaking of perfection, this beautiful new pattern from Camilla David Textiles is pretty close. It’s part of her new Belle Fleur 2 Collection, which consists of seven patterns in a variety of colors. (Standings in Sapphire is one of my new faves.) I like the subtle shades of blue, which in the biz. they call very “on trend.” I promise never to use that phrase again. Have a great weekend!
