SHOP TALK
Just when you thought they couldn’t squeeze another furniture store onto Knox Street, they have. Well, sort of. Tucked behind Restoration Hardware, Domestic Bliss (4532 Cole Ave.) is the offspring of nearby Urban Home and offers an upscale line of sumptuous sofas, bouncy beds, and all things oh-so-chic. Rumor has it that Urban Home will soon temporarily shut down for a face-lift.

Online purveyor of worldly wonders such as mother-of-pearl mirrors (right), Chinese containers, and rustic wall sconces, Wisteria as opened an outlet store—Wisteria At Home (151 Regal Row, Ste. 205)—here in Dallas. Owners Andrew and Shannon Newsom travel the world to find unique, exotic treasures. Lucky us—we now get them for a song.

Big Decorative Center news: Scott+Cooner (1617 Hi Line Dr., Ste. 100) has relocated from the Dallas Design Center to a bigger showroom (more than 10,000 square feet) and added to its stellar selection of modern classic furniture such lines as Casa Armani, Poltrona Frau, and Edra. In addition, Henredon (390 Decorative Center) has opened a showroom at the Center, featuring its full line of European and classical furniture. The showroom will also offer signature fabrics and designs not available from retailers. … NorthPark Center is getting a touch of the Southwest with its latest tenant, Nambé (308 NorthPark Center). Creating fluid works of tabletop art since 1951, the Santa Fe retailer also offers unique crystal pieces and lighting.

Ken Knight’s Book Club
A retrospective design cult of the James Bond-esque decorator of the graphic 1960s has put all of New York into a spin. David Hicks was known for his willingness to juxtapose loud, brash color and pattern in a delicate balance that is not for the fainthearted.  The posthumous rage Hicks’ “movement” is enjoying can be traced to this book, created by his son Ashley Hicks, with a foreword by Texas-born Gucci designer Tom Ford.  If you’re about to jump on this bandwagon, it might be good to pick up this Hicksonian textbook. David Hicks: Designer by Ashley Hicks. $45 at Doubleday, 18 Highland Park Village. 214-528-6756.

Magi Magic
Ditch those damasks and go for something a bit more royal this season. Italian fabric design house Rubelli has successfully recreated the rich textiles from garments in artist Benozzo Gozzoli’s Procession of the Magi, painted in 1459 on the walls of the Palazzo dei Medici chapel in Florence. An expert in the reproduction of historic fabrics, Rubelli enlisted researcher Andrea Gori to delve into the shimmering brocades and silk-woven raiment of Gozzoli’s characters. The results are a stunning and sumptuous set of fabrics suitable for upholstery or draperies. “Benozzo’s magnificent textiles have been lifted out of the frescoes and their ancient world, acquiring an independent existence, no longer tied to the scenic representation of wealthy 15th-century Florence,” says Andrea. “They now live as a textile product of our society.” Rubelli’s fabrics available at ID Collection, 1025 N. Stemmons Fwy., Ste. 745. 214-698-0226.
