Today is another dreary day, which makes it particularly nice parking yourself in a nice comfy chair and indulging in a movie. There’s a few things happening at the Texas Theatre, one being a JFK-related installment of the monthly Tuesday Night Trash series. The theater where Lee Harvey Oswald was caught will screen Naughty Dallas, a 1964 flick that features the girls of Jack Ruby’s Carousel Club. For something a little more highbrow, there’s a 35 mm screening of Nebraska as part of partnership with the New York Film Critics Series. The movie, Alexander Payne’s directorial follow-up to The Descendants, follows a father (Bruce Dern, who won Best Actor at Cannes) and son (Will Forte) on a road trip from Montana to Nebraska to claim money the father thinks he’s won. A live stream with the film’s stars will follow.
At the Angelika Plano, the National Theatre Live program presents an encore screening of 2011’s production of Frankenstein, starring the excellent Jonny Lee Miller and some guy named Benedict Cumberbatch. The two alternated the roles of Dr. Frankenstein and his creation, so Miller is the creature for this one. And while Mexican Sugar might not be quite ready to try, there are plenty of new Plano places to try in our restaurant directory.
