As Walt Maciborski, the anchor of a news broadcast in the nation’s fifth-largest media market, put it: “Coupon kleptos? What?”
That was his lead-in last night to a story (video below) about a woman arrested in Denton for stealing coupons out of Sunday newspapers. It’s an excellent reminder that newspapers remain our nation’s finest coupon delivery system. My question: would the fellow who fills the news racks have complained, and would police have prosecuted, if the woman had been stealing multiple copies of the Metro section or Sports Day?
The likely answer saddens me.
