As the unemployment rate hits a 22-year high, local food banks are sending out word to anyone who will listen (including me) that they are at the breaking point. Not only did the recently laid-off have a hard time getting benefits — thanks to Perry’s initial refusal of stimulus funding (he quietly reneged later)Â — now they are having a hard time even getting food. The Texas food-stamp program is in disarray.
Really, I’m telling you, he’s been there too long. At some point Texas needs a governor who is capable of more than looking good on TV.
