I knew you all would not disappoint. Here, a sampling of the font-related feedback from FrontBurnervians. The first is below, the rest are after the jump:
Highway Gothic (formally known as FHWA Series) is a typeface, not a font. I probably won’t be the only geek to point this out.
Indeed.
There are no such thing as font geeks. It’s urban legend. There are merely people who have more than 2,000 typefaces on their PC and those who are blissfully unaware of the power of fonts. And the latter deserve all the goodness that Comic Sans can bring them.
Me, I’m partial to Futura. But that’s for building signage. Looks blissfully retro. (I work in Geneva, though.) Oh, and someone in Lakewood has a keen eye:
Speaking of which, have you noticed that some of the street signs at the major intersections in Dallas (at least in the Mockingbird/Skillman area near my house) have changed font/design as well? Seems like they used to be wider, with the street name and type (Rd, Ave, etc) in all caps, and the block numbers at either end.
Now I’m beginning to notice some that seem to have just the street name in lower caps and no Rd or Ave, with the block numbers in the lower corners.
Subtle changes I guess, but as long as we’re talking about font geeks…
