Everything is bigger in Texas, and that goes for churches too. Texas historically has had the largest Methodist Church but that claim to fame has passed back and forth between Dallas and Houston for some time. But this year it’s hands down for First Methodist Church of Houston which has 11, 000 members and has, according to the pastors, clearly surpassed Highland Park Methodist (8,800).
If you are Presbyterian or Baptist, rest assured that Dallas does indeed have the largest churches of those denominations – Highland Park Pres-’ byterian (6,054) and First Baptist Church (19,000). And Temple EmanuEl is the largest synagogue in Texas and ranks in the top three in the nation with 2,200 families.
