Though they aren’t given as much airtime in the public consciousness as sports or politics, rivalries in the arts world can be just as all-consuming and ugly. The mythology that swirls around Mozart’s fellow composer, Antonio Salieri persists to this day. Some even suggest that the Italian-born Salieri went to great lengths to sabotage one of the most recognizable musicians of all time. Who would do such a thing?

Tonight, two indie pop acts—We are Scientists and Paws—will be appearing at Club Dada, and the bands share a very unusual distinction: They were both nearly thwarted by one of the most regal names in all of popular music. That would be Morrissey, who recently played the same night at the same venue as the aforementioned acts. Apparently, Morrissey did not want his beloved fans to have to hear anyone else while he performed, and he supposedly asked that the competing  acts be either rearranged, or canceled, or a combination of those undesirable results. Needless to say, it did not go over well with the bands on tonight’s bill.

So tonight presents an opportunity to see who will end up as Mozart and who will end up as Salieri in the centuries-long war between proud musicians. The best part of all of this is that you have a chance to actually see Morrissey make his case at the Majestic later this month.

If you need a bit of sprucing up before tonight’s show, consider stopping by Forty Five Ten, the boutique just off Knox. Makeup artist Jenny Patinkin will be there to save you from being an utter mess.
