Sunset Bakery & Kosher Market is not the only place that sells that Jewish staple, challah bread, but it definitely wins points for authenticity. The small store, which recently took over the old Tel Aviv Market space in Plano, imports hundreds of goods from Israel: Osem chicken consommé, Sadaf dried beans, Passover-friendly goat cheese by La Chevre Kashkaval, plus kosher meat, cookies, candy, and more. But the sweet spot is the bakery, with pareve Israeli specialties baked by Rachel David, who owns the shop with her husband Amos and brother Yaron. Her flaky bourekas filled with spinach, potato, and mushrooms make a perfect Israeli-style breakfast with boiled eggs on the side. And as she did in Israel before moving here five years ago, she bakes challah bread every Thursday and Friday, just in time for the Sabbath. 1820 Coit Rd., Ste. 107, Plano. 972-612-7823. —T.G.
