Christine Allison On D Home’s Win For Best City Magazine In Its Class

D Home has been named the best city magazine in its class by the City and Regional Magazine Association.

Dear Reader

I am going to do a little boasting here, so I want to warn my staff that this will be embarrassing. But I am so proud of the writers, photographers, editors, and designers who work on D Home that I feel compelled, like any self-respecting mother, to brag about my children.

In May, D Home was named the best city magazine in the country in its class. We didn’t just sit around the office and take a vote; we were awarded this honor by the City and Regional Magazine Association at its national conference in San Diego. The award was presented at a glitzy dinner attended by hundreds of regional and local editors and publishers from all over the country. It was a surprise, and our little Dallas group went wild (and would have done so even had they not just sampled several bottles of California wine). This is the first time in CRMA history that a regional or local home and garden magazine has won this award.

However, it wasn’t the first time our company has received this honor. D Magazine, our sister publication, has been named the best city magazine five times in the last seven years. And it is because of the standards of professionalism set by our parent company that we have been able to create D Home and achieve the kind of excellence that has garnered national recognition.

It would be redundant to list everyone on the masthead, but each and every person listed has gone the distance to make this magazine original, fresh, beautiful, and smart.

We also could not have won this award without our freelancers: photographers, writers, stylists, and location scouts. Dallas has an unusual number of extremely talented magazine people, and every one of them at one time or another has helped with D Home, working with our crazy deadlines and modest budgets.

Finally, there is one name that does not appear on our masthead but without whom there would be no D Home. If anyone took a risk in allowing this magazine to come into being, it was Wick Allison. He is the founder and publisher of D Magazine “and my husband. The man took an astonishing leap of faith, and he hasn’t had a home-cooked meal since.

Thank you, Wick, with all of my heart.

And thank you to all of our readers and advertisers for your continuing affection and support.

Cordially,

CHRISTINE ALLISON
