Steward Health Care Closes Texas Hospital and Pieces Launches at Children’s Health

Plus Pyramids South Tower rezoned for medical and AccentCare names new CFO.

Dallas-based Steward Health Care closed the Beaumont, Texas campus Medical Center of Southeast Texas. As reported by Becker’s Hospital Review, the emergency department and all hospital related services will be closed beginning February 2. A representative told Becker’s the campus was underutilized, and that all care offered at the Beaumont location will be taken over by the system’s Port Arthur Campus.


Last month, Dallas-based generative AI company Pieces was deployed across inpatient services at Children’s Health. The AI software is integrated into the electronic medical record to be used by caregivers for everything from clinical handoffs to multidisciplinary rounds. The software uses the data in the health record to create a 100-word summary of the patient’s time in the health system.


The Dallas City Council rezoned Big Sky Medical-owned Pyramids South Tower to allow medical tenancy within the building. Originally intended for Allegiance Telecom, which declared bankruptcy in 2003, the North Tower was rezoned to medical and occupied by Baylor Scot & White and the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute. The towers will now combine for 300,000 square feet of medical clinics and will be one of the largest medical complexes in the region.


Dallas-based post acute care company AccentCare has named Saurabh Gupta its new chief financial officer. Gupta was formerly the chief financial officer at Envision Medical Group and held leadership roles at Steward Health Care, Alcon, Novartis, and American Airlines. AccentCare covers personal, non-medical care to home health, palliative, hospice, telehealth and other services across 31 states.
