UT Southwestern Medical Center and The University of Texas at Dallas were joined by state, regional, and business leaders for the dedication of the Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Building. The facility will support the work of many faculties and their teams with both wet and dry laboratory space, areas designated specifically to promote multidisciplinary interactions, a Biodesign Center that will feature a large assembly/design studio, a metal fabrication shop, and rooms for 3D printing. This facility is said to accelerate training for the next generation and foster medical innovations to improve patient care.

The WARM Place, a center supporting grieving children and families, announces the expansion of its home to eradicate its waitlist of nearly 100 cases. The WARM Place is the first children’s grief center in Texas and has supported more than 45,000 children and their families through the loss of a parent, sibling, grandparent, or other loved one since 1989. It is also the only grief support center in Tarrant County.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark for Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification, becoming the second facility in Texas to obtain this achievement. An essential part of Texas Health Fort Worth earning recognition from The Joint Commission is cultivating a multidisciplinary care team. To receive Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification, facilities must also offer specific services to cardiac patients. This certification requires health facilities to complete an extensive two-day, on-site review by The Joint Commission. To maintain the Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification, Texas Health Fort Worth will undergo another review process in two years.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, which introduced the world’s first physical health-focused startup accelerator, TechStars, announces its second cohort. The accelerator’s primary focus is supporting companies building new technologies, treatments, and therapies in physical health in areas such as rehabilitation, physical therapy, performance, and exercise. The selected startups will participate in a 13-week program with hands-on mentorship, curated entrepreneurial content, and programming, up to $120,000 in funding, and access to an extensive network of mentors, investors, alums, and influential corporate executives. HSC partnered with Techstars, the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and Goff Capital for the second accelerator. From the release, get to know the startups below.
