DFW hospitals are facing staffing shortages, and federal medical teams are on the way to help.

Dallas County reported 1,201 new cases on Thursday and 10 more deaths, with a record number of hospitalizations in the county and a big jump in emergency room visits due to COVID-19 symptoms, which represent 36 percent of all visits to the ER. The Dallas Morning News has more.

Federal assistance is on the way to two DFW area hospitals to help with staffing shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The caregivers will be from the Disaster Medical Assistance Teams, WFAA reports.

KERA reports that 15000 children tested positive for COVID-19 last month, doubling the May numbers. Since March, about 60 children have been hospitalized due to the disease.

Texas added 100 more counties where elective surgeries are now banned as the virus continues to spread throughout the state. Governor Abbott says it is to free up resources to treat those infected with the virus, The Texas Tribune reports.
