Medical City Healthcare has opened a $4.8 million patient-simulation training center in Frisco called the HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Development.

Nurses and nurse residents will receive advanced training in an environment that simulates a healthcare setting and includes interactive mannequin “patients” to mimic patient interactions. Instructors are able to observe training participants as they improve their technical skills like catheter insertion or softer skills like communication and teamwork.

“Simulated nurse training and education enables nurses to learn in a clinical setting without any patient risk,” says Zach Mueller, chief nursing executive of Medical City Healthcare via release. “The HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement will support education, simulation and innovation for clinical colleagues to learn together and find creative solutions to clinical practice challenges. As a result, Medical City Healthcare nurses set the bar when it comes to providing the highest quality, safe and compassionate patient care.”

The 37,000 square-foot facility will support the 7,000 nurses and 700 annual nurse residents who work for Medical City Healthcare. It will serve as a hub for remote training to other locations in the Medical City system. In addition to simulated spaces, the center includes debriefing rooms, classrooms, and an auditorium. The center is one of four such centers built by HCA.

“The HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement offers our clinicians access to innovative training experiences that enhance patient safety and advance the practice of nursing,” says Erol Akdamar, president of Medical City Healthcare via release. “It is one more way we show our commitment to deliver exceptional care for every patient we serve.”
