Who Will Know the Full Cost of Obamacare First? A Bunch of Actuaries in Denver.

A few confidentiality-bound actuaries in Denver will be the first to glimpse the real cost of Obamacare, NPR reports.

A few insurance companies have agreed to give Wakely Consulting Group early information about enrollment and member health, and the firm will use the data to give insurers estimates of how much they’ll pay or receive. The information will also help insurers set rates for 2015.

“It’s really about, how healthy or sick are these people?” said Ross Winkelman, a Wakely actuary who’s running the analysis. “That’s probably the biggest uncertainty in each plan’s rate filing.”
