Rangers Win American League Pennant! The Rangers scored three runs in the first inning; and Adolis García hit two home runs, earning the MVP award for the series and setting a record for RBIs in a postseason series with 15, which led someone to edit the Astros’ Wikipedia page to reflect that he is the team’s principal owner; and Bryan Abreu, who is a terrible person, showed how terrible he is by beaning Mitch Garver in the ribs; and two Astros fans wearing astronaut suits sulked so hard that they were all over Twitter; and then, after the game ended 11-4, Marcus Semien brought three of his four children, one of them shirtless, to the Fox on-field set for his postgame interview; and Matt Goodman sent me a Venmo payment to settle our bet; and the team sprayed champagne and beer all over each other, even though the mayor of Dallas suggested that noted baseball jinx Ted Cruz should now support the Rangers; and then some of us had trouble falling asleep because THE RANGERS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES, Y’ALL.
Houston Is Sad. Columnist Jerome Solomon in the Houston Chronicle: “While it was a beautiful night for baseball, it was ugly indoors. The Astros should have considered opening the roof at Minute Maid Park to let the stench out. No rain. No reins. End of reign. Game 7, often described as the greatest two words in sports, will elicit mostly sad memories of the Astros’ 2023 season. It was a grueling trek with many highs, but in the end the Astros were never consistently good enough to repeat as World Series champions. They were not ready to reign. The torturous finale of the American League Championship Series was particularly painful, coming in embarrassing fashion at the hands of in-state and division rival Texas.” LOL
