As you may have heard, New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte officially retired today. Guess where his first post-retirement public appearance will be: The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson.
Random? Not so much. Pettitte was invited to speak there by executive pastor John Wills, a former chaplain for the Astros. He and Pettitte became friends during the pitcher’s stint in Houston.
Pettitte and his wife, Laurie, last visited The Heights two years ago when Pettitte spoke of how his Christian faith helps him deal with the challenges of life as a major league pitcher. Laurie will sing and Andy will speak in both the 9:15 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. services on Sunday.
