Lisa Hembry Named President, CEO of Dallas Community Television; Former Dallas County Treasurer, civic leader to lead in new era
DALLAS — Lisa A. Hembry, former Dallas County Treasurer, has been named President and CEO of Dallas Community Television and will direct the public television and media facilities and services into its next quarter century.
Her rich background in media, public and community service and non-profit organizational experience made her the top choice after a nation-wide search, said Robert Thomas, Chair of Dallas Community Television Board of Directors.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to combine my personal and professional interests in community service and communications,” she said. “We are facing major shifts in the way people receive and deliver their communications and DCTV will play a pivotal role in initiating and facilitating those processes. This organization is blessed with an outstanding staff, a dedicated board and a cadre of volunteer producers that rivals any city in the country.”
Before her election as Dallas County Treasurer in 2002, Ms. Hembry served as news director for KKDA radio, and public affairs director for KRLD radio. She owns a media production company, March Forth LLC.
While she was a real estate broker, she served as Public Affairs Director of the Greater Dallas Association of REALTORS and had served as Marketing Director for the Staubach Company. She was also recruited to serve for two years as CEO of the Dallas Historical Society.
She graduated with honors in Political Science from SMU and earned her Graduate Marketing Certificate from the Cox School of Business at SMU.
Among her many civic and service activities, she served last year as president of SMU’s Town and Gown Club; treasurer for the Oak Cliff Lions where she was recently honored as Lion of the Year; the board of directors of Baylor HealthCare System, Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Human Rights Initiative Advisory Board, Dallas Historical Society Executive Committee, Women of the Southwest Archives at SMU and she is a member of Dallas Chapter of the Links, Inc.
Previously, she served in leadership positions and boards of Tejas Council of Girl Scouts, Women’s Council of Dallas County, Goodwill Industries, African American Museum, Dallas Symphony Association Executive Committee, YMCA Metropolitan Dallas Executive Committee, Dallas Museum of Art, American Museum of Miniature Arts, Dallas Black Dance Theater.
Ms. Hembry also served on numerous local, state, and national associations by virtue of her service as Dallas County Treasurer.
DCTV is celebrating its 25 years of service to the Dallas community and recently announced several major initiatives. The three television channels it operates are now web streamed at www.dctvdallas.org, it is completing its transition to all digital equipment. It has sold its Stemmons Corridor building and will locate into the Central Dallas Public Library where it began operations 25 years ago. DCTV will re-brand itself with new logo and name change to reflect its broadening communications services, and its exciting communications outreach strategies.
Sharon King, DCTV’s previous President and CEO, announced she will be assuming the position of Vice-President, Marketing and Business Development for Harris Financial Group.
