RE: BILL BLAYDES

|

The city councilman just left my office. He walked in with the steam coming out of his ears because of this item, which, he said, impugned his character. In all 68 cases that he failed to file the proper form, he says he notifed the City Secretary that he was recusing himself in writing. Should he have filled out the right form? Okay, yes. But it is a long leap from that to the broad brush stroke that he was trying to hide something from the public. He wasn’t. His contract with DISD is open to review, and in fact, he earlier had invited D Magazine to review it.

Touche. The man is right, and I was wrong. I apologized to him for the aspersion. (By the way, his contract representing the DISD ended two days ago so the question is not likely to arise again.)

Final note: I liked the fact that he called to come see me, so we could look each other in the eye. That’s the right way to do things.
