Jeni From the Block, But Make It Ice Cream

Dallas is the latest Texas city—after Austin and Houston—to secure a brick-and-mortar location of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, an Ohio-based chain with a strong national following. CultureMap Dallas reported the scoop that an official spokesperson had no details about the timeline of the opening, in keeping with their habit of opening without fanfare. However, we suspect no matter how quietly they open the doors, everyone in Deep Ellum will know. Fans of their specialty ice cream flavors—think goat cheese and roasted cherries or vegan cold brew with coconut cream—can choose between a single scoop or multiple half scoops.

Real Hookah of Dallas

If you keep up with the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you know Dennis McKinley for his tumultuous engagement to Real Housewife Porsha Williams. Even if you don’t, you can still probably imagine the kind of energy he’s bringing to his new location of Cru Hemp Lounge in Dallas. The popular Atlanta CBD-hookah-bar-restaurant is set to open its new location in Deep Ellum in 2021, according to Eater Dallas. Expect innovative shisha flavor mixes like Fruity Pebbles and chai tea, cocktails, classic bar fare, and cannabidiol oil add-ons.

Chas Martin Set to Give The Grape New Life

Not long ago, we were mourning the closure of neighborhood bistro The Grape. Now, a glimmer of hope hangs on the horizon for the once-cheery East Dallas spot and his name is Chas Martin. Martin, who operates the glamorous Italian restaurant, The Charles, has announced plans for a new restaurant in the Greenville Avenue location, per the Dallas Morning News. Though the concept remains faceless and nameless for the time being, Martin’s vision is to maintain the cozier, neighborhood vibe of The Grape while bringing in Italian flavors from The Charles. Brian Luscher, former chef and co-owner, said he is thrilled to see “somebody come in and give it the love it deserves,” he told DMN.

Michael Ehlert is Ready to Bring You a Lada Enchiladas

If you think of enchiladas as simple, Michael Ehlert is here to prove you wrong. Ehlert is taking the thoughtful approach he learned as the executive chef at fine-dining spot, The French Room, and applying it to his counter-service restaurant, Lada. The new restaurant will feature six signature enchiladas that Ehlert has been refining since 2018, reported Dallas Morning News. Every aspect of the menu is well-planned and carefully executed, from blue corn tortillas made in house to cider-glazed steak. Lada is set to open in Far North Dallas on November 12.
