Goodfriend Package Store quietly opened yesterday in a strip mall on Peavy Road across from Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House. The casual grab-and-go restaurant specializes in breakfast, sandwiches, and bottled beer.

Owners Matt Tobin and Josh Yingling, the guys behind Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House and Blind Butcher, plan to offer 600 bottles and cans of beer for guests to build their own six-packs with. There are currently 250 brews in stock.

Chef Oliver Sitrin, who is also executive chef at Blind Butcher, has crafted a menu filled with breakfast staples such as corned beef and potato hash, biscuits and gravy, an egg sandwich, and pancakes. Breakfast is offered daily from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Bonus: Cultivar Coffee will soon be moving from its space across the street (inside Good 2 Go Taco) to Goodfriend Package Store.

The “not breakfast” menu is available from 11 a.m. until close and features 11 gourmet sandwiches. Sandwiches range from $4 to $15 and highlights include the herb-roasted roast beef with Swiss cheese and horseradish mayonnaise on a ciabatta roll, and the pastrami and rye made with cured and smoked Beeman Ranch beef pastrami, Swiss cheese, and mustard on marble rye. They also make a vegetarian-friendly mushroom pastrami version. It’s delicious.

The restaurant takes pride in sourcing products from Texas and preparing all of their meats off-site at their “Meat Garage” commissary. They use Beeman Ranch and Crystal Creek meat, Pachi Pachi cheese, and Homestead Gristmill steel-cut oats (for the pancakes), to name a few.
While all of the sandwiches are wrapped in to-go paper, guests are welcome to grab a seat and hang out. Those with the attention span of a goldfish can shop for music as they wait for their food. The record selection is curated by Good Records’ Chris Penn. In other words: it’s legit.
