Eat This Now: Filet Mignon Pizza at Battuto Italian Kitchen in North Dallas

|
Image

photo (7)The other night I popped into Battuto Italian Kitchen in North Dallas. This casual restaurant is owned by radio personalities Gene & Julie Gates. The menu boasts handmade pastas, pizzas, clean vegetable puree soups, and fresh seafood and Italian specialites. They are devoted to  fresh, local, and seasonal products and offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The wine list is short but thoughtful: McPherson Cellars Viogner and other Texas wines join Super Tuscans, Oregon Pinots, and French Champagne.

Two of us split a salad, an 8-inch pizza covered with medium rare filet mignon, fresh figs, caramelized onions, and gorgonzola ($16), and each had a glass of wine and we got out for just a little over $40. The restaurant is in the snake-bit space that once housed Baja Grill, Berryhill, and II Brothers Grill just across from Cadot’s. Perhaps Gene and Julie will break the losing streak.
