JLL: Fort Worth—A Job-Creation Engine

Recent reports that Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth lost jobs was slightly misleading, according to the research team at JLL.

Recent reports that Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth lost jobs was slightly misleading, according to the research team at JLL:

It was based on the month-to-month change in jobs between February and March. Fluctuations like this are not uncommon given how imperfect the data can be, occasional government re-benchmarking of the numbers, and normal seasonal fluctuations.  In actuality, on a year-on-year basis, most U.S. markets saw solid—if not accelerating—jobs gains in the last 12 months.

From a labor perspective, DFW is divided into Dallas-Plano and Fort Worth-Arlington. While most news addresses the broader region, Fort Worth has been on a strong growth trajectory during this economic cycle.

Since 2014, Fort Worth’s growth increased by close to 13.5 percent. More important, though, is the fact that Fort Worth is closing in on the 1 million job-mark. That’s a new peak and a powerful economic engine adding jobs across many sectors.

Here are more Fort Worth employment statistics from JLL:

• 990,000—new employment peak

• 129,000 jobs added since 2010

• 2.8 percent annual compound growth

• 5,000 new office jobs since 2013

• 11,000 new industrial jobs since 2013
