The State Fair of Texas is around the corner, and Big Tex isn’t the only star of the show. The fair has free concerts on the Chevrolet Main Stage everyday during its three-week run, and some new names were added to the lineup today.
Following Rick Springfield’s opening day performance on Friday, September 27, Jacquees will be taking the stage on Saturday, September 28 at 2 p.m. The sensual R&B singer known for hit songs “B.E.D.” and “You” is not the State Fair of Texas vibe we expected, but he is a refreshing stand out in a lineup that’s heavy on classic rock and country. Following Jacquees’ performance on Saturday is the throwback funk group Cameo, performing at 8:30 p.m.
Closing out the fair’s opening weekend are Latin groups La Reserva Norteña and La Maquinaria Norteña, both performing Sunday afternoon. The fair promises “guests will be blown away by the quintet’s rich vocals and Tejano rhythms.” A few days later, on Thursday, October 3, another Tejano band, Raulito Navaira y Remedio will be rocking the fair.
Also added to the free concert lineup are Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass Band, a Beatles tribute, on October 9 and Ron Lawrence and Sazerac Jazz on October 16. For those who want to boot-scoot, there will be a large variety of country acts performing throughout the month, including Bob Schneider, Big & Rich, Billy Ray Cyrus, and new additions Dave Alexander, Ryan Ross Band, and The Powell Brothers.
Fairgoers can get a taste of Dallas music through Grammy Award-winning polka band Brave Combo on October 2 (they’ll be playing three sets), and new wave country artist Taylor Young Band on October 11.
As October starts to cool down, the Chevrolet Main Stage is heating up. 98 Degrees, to be specific! Allow me to jog your memory. Nick Lachey and his lesser-known brother Drew started a boy band with friends Justin Jeffre and Jeff Timmons during the boy band-friendly late ‘90s. They had a few hits like “I Do” and “The Hardest Thing.” They’re playing during the fair’s closing weekend, on Saturday, October 19 at 8:30 p.m.
