Aurora, the massive light and media art exhibition that will return to the Dallas Arts District in October, wants your photos. Specifically, the founders of Aurora want North Texans’ photos for “Memory Lane,” a multimedia exhibit by artists Veronika Georgieva and Stephen Shanabrook.

Per a press release from the AT&T Performing Arts Center:

The multiscreen installation will be located on North Harwood Street between Klyde Warren Park and Flora Street. The exhibit will allow the community to see what life looked like in our region and the diverse and growing array of citizens who have helped shape it.

The project will use photography taken from 1901 through 2000, and the artists are casting a pretty broad net for documentation of 20th century life in North Texas. Here are some suggested ideas for the subjects of these photos, again from the press release:

  • Births
  • Weddings
  • Religious or cultural milestones including baptisms, bar mitzvah, quinceañeras, communions, etc.
  • Workplace
  • Block parties and neighborhood gatherings
  • Vacations and trips
  • Processions and religious happenings
  • Secular parties (such as barbeques or evenings with friends)
  • Daily life in hospitals, army bases, prisons, orphan homes, or health facilities

Go here to share your photos and to find more information. That link will also take you to a page where you can view and vote on the vintage photos that have already been submitted.
