A plan to distribute $16 billion in COVID relief funds heads to Texas Senate, KERA reports. The plan includes $7.2 billion for the Unemployment Compensation Fund and $400 million in critical staffing retention.

Study finds more than 120,000 US children have lost a primary caregiver to COVID-19, WFAA reports. The study published in the medical journal Pediatrics finds that more than half of children who lost a primary caregiver due to COVID-19 are Black and Hispanic Americans. These racial groups make up 40% of the US population.


Pfizer and BioNTech are seeking FDA authorization of their COVID-19 vaccine for children ages five to 11, FOX 4 reports. An independent expert panel will publicly debate on Oct. 26 if there is enough evidence of shot safety and efficacy for younger children as they do for teens and adults. If FDA approved, the vaccines could be available for children between five and 11 within weeks.
