Beginning October 15, Dallas’ interactive art gallery Sweet Tooth Hotel will open a new location in Allen. And it’s bringing along five local artists to kick things off. Niki Dionne, Hatizel Flores, Sam Lao, Madison Mask, and MOM are the Dallas artists who will take their talents to the suburb. (Seattle’s Andy Arkley rounds out the lineup.)
The exhibition is titled Rewind, and the original installations are all inspired by that theme. Sweet Tooth describes it as “something that rewinds or is rewound. A function of an electronic device that reverses a recording to a previous portion.” The gallery is keeping mum on what those will look like, but the sugary interactive space provides an experiential space for artists to create.
The location will also include two installations from Intangible, a previous Sweet Tooth exhibition for longtime fans of the dessert-inspired, Instagram-friendly, immersive pop culture art experience. The forthcoming exhibit contains the debut of the Rainbow Cave, a floor-to-ceiling room covered in handmade string sculptures that creates a giant rainbow heart. You’ll only find that at the Allen location. The heart of the immersive gallery features a vintage video store for guests to interact with old VHS tapes, which led to “hidden spaces to explore.”
Tickets are on sale now for the fall exhibition. For those in need of a Sweet Tooth Hotel experience before then, visit its pop-up motel in Fort Worth; its Victory Park flagship remains closed.
